Good Question

Blog part 3 from the evangelism course I’ve been running at St. Christopher’s.

Last week I mentioned one of my great heroes – Matteo Ricci. He was a Jesuit missionary who went to China in 1578 and worked with a very small group to establish an amazing missionary work in that country. I might mention him some more on another date for those of you facinated by him!

Matteo Ricci

When he was working to establish the church in a country that had previously been closed to Christians he asked a very interesting question ‘How can we create the conditions for the church to flourish?’. I suspect many of us today would ask ‘What must I do to win someone for Christ? (or words to that effect). The genius of Matteo’s question was that it looked to the future and the sustainability of mission rather than to a quick success story.

So many lessons for us there, I’ll let you take the ones you want.
